HISTORY

MAIN CAMP OUTFITTING

Main Camp Outfitting has a rich history rooted in the remote wilderness of Northern Alberta. Before roads reached any part of the area, the journey was an adventure in itself. The lands that we hunt are situated in what feels like the middle of nowhere, surrounded by untamed wilderness. This area has remained largely untouched and unseen by man. The pioneers in the area travelled by dog sled, Argo, and by boat to access our remote location.

One of the most intriguing aspects of our history is the discovery of a trapper’s cabin. This cabin, thought to be over 100 years old, still stands today near our camp as a testament to the hardy souls who lived off the land through hunting and trapping.

MCO HistoryIn 1998, the business was sold to our family. Under their ownership, the outfitting business flourished, welcoming approximately 75 hunters annually.

Lyle Freelend, who grew up guiding with his parents, Bob and Tricia Freelend, and attending sports shows with them, became deeply involved in the family business. Eventually, Lyle and his partner Kristin took over Main Camp Outfitting, continuing the legacy of guiding people through the wild landscapes of Northern Alberta.

Today, Main Camp Outfitting remains dedicated to offering exceptional hunting adventures and preserving the spirit of exploration that defines our history. Join us and become part of our story—a story forged by passion, wilderness, and a deep connection to the land.
